This error can be triggered sometimes from your browser's cookie settings.
In Chrome (for example)
Click on the gear icon next to your current site's URL field
Then, click on "Cookies and Site data"
Be sure that the toggle for "Third-party cookies" is OFF
(or if it is currently off, try turning it on)
Reload the login page for the customer portal and try again.
